Christina Rafidia was honored to be crowned Miss Arab USA on September 10, 2011, a title defining her distinction as an independent, intelligent, confident American-Arab woman. Born in Chicago, Illinois to father, Munir Rafidia, from Palestine, and mother, Marlin Rafidia of Jordanian descent, Christina dreams of this opportunity to represent Arab women, which has now become a reality.
At 22 years old, she is a Biology/pre-dental major from the University of Illinois at Chicago planning to apply for dental school next year. Passionate about the dental field, she has worked as a dental assistant at 1st Family Dental for over 4 years. She is an advocate of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and raises money for children to be treated at no cost.
Christina's priority is her family, especially her two younger brothers, and for that reason, she plans to stay close to home even when further pursuing her education. She attributes her success to the unconditional love of God, her family, friends, and supporters. She believes that a strong family foundation is essential to instilling morals and living a prosperous life.
In her spare time, Christina enjoys pursuing her acting and modeling careers. She has taken part in many local advertisements and fashion shows. Recently, Christina has been taking voice lessons to strengthen her voice and learn new techniques. Exploring the city of Chicago, soaking up the sun at Lake Michigan, traveling, and trying different restaurants are definitely favorites of hers. Christina also enjoys shopping in the city of Chicago for the best bargains and working out. She believes that it is important for a woman to maintain herself and to hold her head up high.
Christina strives to step outside of her comfort zone and challenge herself during her year of reign. She plans to visit with government officials, spend time with children at local hospitals, travel to various cities for Middle Eastern functions, and even cheer on her favorite Chicago sports teams. Her goal is to promote her platform, to eliminate any animosity and stereotypes that may exist against the Arab people, and to teach the American people of the Arab warmth and hospitality. She strongly encourages the education of the youth in order to teach them that each human being is worthy of respect and is equal regardless of race, religion, or beliefs.
Christina's philosophy is that "nothing in this world comes easy. We are the protagonists of our own story. Obstacles will come our way, but it is up to us to make the best decisions to overcome them." Christina understands that the title of Miss Arab USA is not only a privilege, but an important responsibility. She cannot wait to embark on this journey, and make a difference in every Arab American's life.
